Where is Natural Gas found?
The nonrenewable source is found in multiple places and reserves around the world. When thinking about nonrenwable resources, many will think about the Middle East, Russia, or China. Surprisingly though, the US has multiple resources that are available to use but just not found or used as much as the other countries. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration there is approximately 2,203 trillion cubic feet of natural gas found in the US. Specific areas of the US that have natural gas reserves are found in the Appalachian Basin, which include the states of Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Ohio. These shale natural gas reservoirs are accessible through technologies such as horizontal drilling and fracking.
Many of the reserves of natural gas are still underutilized and there is no threat of depletion in the near future.
An advantage to using natural gas is that there would be an increase of domestic fuel supplies, gradually letting us off of dependence on foreign oil, bringing down the cost of foreign energy and creating more American jobs. Some states have even had revival with production use, including Pennslyvania, West Virginia, Montana, Kansas, and North Dakota.
